In 1963, he entered Toei Animation at the same time as [Tsutomu Shibayama](https://anilist.co/staff/119556/) and [Hayao Miyazaki](https://anilist.co/staff/96870/). He was a chief animator working with Shibayama after having transferred to a A Production. In 1978, he established [Ajia-do](https://anilist.co/studio/30/) together with Shibayama. _Note: Not to be confused with the 1964 born director, [Osamu Kobayashi](https://anilist.co/staff/100406/)._
